Foundation and Retaining Wall Waterproofing

Application area · Foundations and retaining walls

A sound future starts with a sound foundation

Foundations and retaining walls below ground are constantly exposed to groundwater, moisture and chemicals in the soil. Once the building is complete, these surfaces are very hard to reach; that is why the waterproofing has to be done right from day one.

For foundations and retaining walls, Izowhite offers solutions that are applied on the side the water comes from and work together with the concrete: Powercon, resistant to chemicals and salt solutions in the soil; Kristalize, resistant to negative and positive water pressure; and Water Cutter, which can be used in below-ground areas.

Application

Foundation and retaining wall waterproofing step by step

  1. The surface is made sound and clean; oil, rust, cement residue and dirt are removed.
  2. Large pores and cracks are filled with repair mortar.
  3. Crack-prone areas such as sharp edges and horizontal and vertical joints are rounded off with chamfer tape or repair mortar.
  4. The waterproofing is applied on the side the water comes from.
  5. The surface is dampened; Izowhite Powercon is applied in at least 2 coats, each coat perpendicular to the previous one.
  6. Izowhite Water Cutter can also be used in below-ground areas.

Frequently asked questions about foundation waterproofing

Why should foundation waterproofing be done before the building is finished?

Once foundations and retaining walls are covered with soil, these surfaces are very hard to reach. The waterproofing should be applied on the side the water comes from, before backfilling.

Which product is used against negative water pressure?

Where water pushes toward the inside of the structure on basement and foundation walls, Izowhite Kristalize is used; it is resistant to negative and positive water pressure.

Can Powercon be added to concrete?

Yes. In C20 and higher concrete, 5 liters are added to the mix per 1 m³ before pouring; it can also be applied by brushing onto the surface.
